Spelling! is an educational software by Aeros Apps. It’s designed to provide convenient access to a large collection of educational videos that can help you to teach children to read and write by watching immersive videos. The app is currently available for Windows computers, Windows Mobile (the platform is discontinued), and Microsoft Surface Hub. You can purchase full access to the course by making a single payment from your MS account.

Interface – 5/5

The app has a simple interface inspired by mobile applications. There’s a menu bar on the left, and it lets you access all the features and levels in a single click, no matter where you are at the moment. The interface appearance and logic remains the same, independently from the device you are using. Only the old mobile version is a bit different as the platform is not supported anymore and doesn’t receive updates.

Functionality – 5/5

Spelling! is a highly intuitive and effective learning experience that lets you teach your children and pupils English spelling, pronunciation, and writing. Purchasing the app, you get access to the full course that includes over 500 high-quality educational videos. The recordings are made with the help of children psychologists and professional tutors with years of work with preschoolers. Due to this, the app can be used as a part of an educational program in classes for preschoolers and elementary school students.

I tried to exercise with my 4-year-old daughter while testing the app for this review, and she showed real excitement while watching the videos. Even though children of her age cannot concentrate on something for long, she watched 4 episodes of the Spelling Practice course and returned to the app the next day. I cannot guarantee that your child will be entertained and excited by the app too, but the results of my child impressed me.

The course includes comprehensive materials about English spelling, reading, phonics, alphabet, counting, numbers, shapes, basic mathematical actions, nature, and many more. All modules include cartoons, songs, gamified exercises, and other entertaining, educational content.

Security – 5/5

There’s no need to worry when your children use the app alone as it doesn’t allow them to surf the web and find inappropriate materials. The content library is totally clean from unwanted materials and includes only those cartoons that have educational value. There are no videos that are too difficult too. If you have a Surface Hub, you can watch videos and let your children write on the whiteboard at the same time to complete exercises.

Spelling! and Entertainment

Spelling! is an excellent piece of software for preschoolers and primary school students. It can be used at home and in the classroom to teach children all the basics by showing them exciting videos. Of course, you need to give them exercises and other materials for a better effect, but it’s a powerful complement too.

Pros:

  • Over 500 exciting educational videos
  • Simple navigation
  • Excellent knowledge base
  • Kid-friendly app

Cons:

  • The mobile version doesn’t receive updates anymore
  • No version for iOS and Android
